HISTORY
Liberia
College (The College of Social Sciences and Humanities) has been the Liberal and
Fine Arts College of the University of Liberia since 1951 when the University
was established. The College, re-named the College of Social Sciences and Humanities,
is the direct successor of Liberia College founded in 1862 by the Trustees of
Donations for Education in Liberia. It had the earliest program in higher education
in Liberia thereby providing leadership especially for the national government.
Over the years, Liberia College paved the way for the University of Liberia.
Liberia
College (College of Social Sciences and Humanities) functions within a new matrix,
with degree programs in English, French, Geography, History, Mass Communication,
Political Science and Sociology. These programs lead toward a Bachelor of Art
degree. Minors and electives are given in the programs of Anthropology, Art and
Crafts, Demography, Liberian Languages, Philosophy, Psychology and Physical Education.
All Liberian male students of the University are required to take ROTC. A total
of 124 semester hours are needed to obtain a degree.
